The 1st Primary School of Markopoulou, in the framework of the Erasmus programme, had the honour of hosting students and teachers from the French school Collège Gérard de Nerval, located in Vitré, France, which was a unique opportunity for the development of cultural ties and the exchange of educational practices between the two schools.
During their stay in Greece, the French students had the opportunity to visit the Panathenaic Stadium, one of the most historical monuments of Athens. There, they were amazed by the history and grandeur of the stadium, which hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. The students were particularly impressed by the size and architecture of the stadium, as well as the fact that it is made entirely of white marble.
Then, at the 1st Primary School of Markopoulou, they met the Olympic cycling champion Lambros Vassilopoulos. This event was a unique opportunity for the students to get to know the sport of cycling and to be inspired by a distinguished athlete.
Mr. Vassilopoulos spoke to the children about the sport of cycling, explaining to them the value of discipline, hard work and dedication required to reach the top. The children had the opportunity to see a track and road racing bike, while the Olympic champion also showed them the special uniform, shoes and helmet used in the races.
The presentation was very interactive, with the children asking many questions and showing great interest in the details of the sport and the daily life of a professional athlete. Mr. Vassilopoulos' knowledge and experience inspired and excited the students, motivating them to get involved in sports and pursue their dreams.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Mr. Lambros Vassilopoulos for the honor of being with us and sharing his valuable knowledge and experience.
We renew our appointment with the start of the new school year at the velodrome, where we will have the opportunity to continue our acquaintance with the sport of cycling and live new exciting experiences.
