The conference «Eu Zine in Education: The Modern Challenge of Schools», aimed at highlighting the importance of mental, social and physical well-being in the modern educational process.
The presentations focused on the link between learning and the mental and physical health of students, the importance of movement, resilience and responsible use of technology, as well as the role of the school in creating an environment of safety, acceptance and meaningful participation for all students.
Among the speakers were Mr. Konstantinos Doukas, Managing Director of Doukas Schools, Dr. Konstantinos Arvanitakis, Primary Education Counsellor of Athens B’ Athens, Vasiliki Notopoulou, Quality Supervisor & Secondary Education Counsellor of Athens B’ Athens, Dr. Dimitris Bourantas, Dean of New York College, Sarah Reynolds, Director of Education at Cognita Schools, Vera Dilari, National Coordinator ASPnet UNESCO, Francesca Savvorginaki, Journalist, Dr. Kalliopi Kalaitzi-Hatzidaki, Physicist, Makis Tsitsopoulos, Head of Physical Education at Doukas Schools, Dr. Irini Karakasidou, Professor of Counselling Psychology at Panteion University, Dr. Lisa Varvogli and Dr. Harris Pischos, Psychologists, as well as Dr. Konstantinos Xenos, Clinical Dietician.
Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki addressed the event, underlining the importance of children's well-being and mental resilience in the school environment.
The President of the National Olympic Academy and two-time Olympic champion in gymnastics, Demosthenes Tabakos, participated in the conference as a speaker, with a presentation on «Teachers as role models for an active and balanced lifestyle», focusing on the role of the teacher in shaping students' attitudes and values. Through selected references to pedagogical thinking and educational practice, the importance of the personal presence of the teacher as a factor that influences the behaviour and attitude of students, beyond the transmission of knowledge, while cultivating the concept of contribution and contribution to the common good, was highlighted. At the same time, the idea that a balanced and happy teacher helps to create a positive and supportive environment for students was highlighted.
