Olympic Week in Schools - First Modern Olympic Games: 130 years later | 25 - 29 May 2026

4th Day of the Olympic Week in Schools 2024!

The 4th day began with the greeting of the Deputy Minister of Education Zetta M. Makri who said that it is a pleasure to be with us in the 4th Olympic Week and we celebrate through sport for the 4th consecutive year. Your presence and participation is a testament to the faith and power of Education and the pedagogical value of sport. As the Minister responsible for school sport, I believe that the great relationship that we encourage in the school environment, that of our children through the benefits of exercise and the development of this attitude, is extremely important.

On the 4th day of the Olympic Education programme, the students of the Secondary School had the opportunity to attend interesting information about the upcoming Games and learn about the innovations that will be presented at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.

Then the Olympic wrestling champion Voula Zygouris, member of the Board of Directors of ETHNOA, said that the best Olympic value is solidarity and urged the students to make it a part of their lives.

The students «travelled» through the Athens Olympic Museum with an excellent presentation where they got to know the pioneers of the revival of the Olympic Games of Athens in 1896 as well as some of the main milestones, such as 1896-1900-1924-2004 and 2024 in combination with small thematic units followed by quizzes.

This was followed by the connections where the students talked to the Paralympic athletics gold medalist Nassos Gavelas, who, as the Schools said, was a source of inspiration and strength for everyone and that he touched them with his strength, seriousness and modesty.

Then they met the world champion of artistic swimming Sophia Malkoyeorgou who talked to them about her sport and all its secrets and finally they had the opportunity to talk to the bronze medalist of Paralympic swimming Antonis Tsapatakis, who really captivated all the students with his passion and strength of soul, giving them great and very important advice not only for sport but also for their lives.
