The Olympic Education program of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Academy, in cooperation with the Hellenic Ministry of Defence, has broken all participation records and we warmly thank all the teachers and schools that embrace with so much enthusiasm all our efforts!
The Olympic Week has become a strong institution and every year it gets even better.
The second day of the programme started with the warm welcome of Mr Kostas Georgiadis, Professor of the University of Peloponnese, Dean of the International Olympic Academy and member of the National Olympic Academy, who spoke about the Olympic Education programme which promotes principles and values through targeted actions so that students can experience the Olympic values.
Today the students were introduced to the Olympic Museum of Athens through an excellent presentation where they learned about the pioneers of the revival of the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 and some of the main milestones, such as 1896-1900-1924-2004 and 2024 in combination with small thematic units followed by quizzes.
Then Mrs. Maria Papaioannou, member of the Board of Directors of ETHNOA, stressed how important it is to have values in our lives and to follow them and the students had the opportunity to get interesting information about the upcoming Games and learn about the innovations that will be presented at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.
Afterwards, the students met and chatted with the Olympic gold medalist in gymnastics Lefteris Petrounias and Olympian Vasiliki Milloussi, who sent strong messages to all the schools from Greece, Cyprus and the Diaspora (from Johannesburg, Congo, Melbourne, Munich and Bucharest), who were watching us. And the High School of Kasos dedicated two mantras to them «Great with honor our Petrounias Lefteris, you are the champion and the match of prizes» and the second one «Lefteris and Vasiliki, we ask only one thing, that you come champions this year».
Then the students had the pleasure to meet and talk to the world champion of rhythmic gymnastics Panagiota Lytra who spoke to them about her sport and her dreams for Paris and the Olympic silver medalist and captain of our national team Yannis Fountoulis, a great athlete and a great man, who introduced them to the magical world of water polo and gave them valuable advice.
