Olympic Week in Schools - First Modern Olympic Games: 130 years later | 25 - 29 May 2026

PAINTING EXHIBITION DEDICATED TO THE OLYMPIC DAY

The Children's Gallery of Greece in collaboration with the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Academy, in the framework of the celebration of the Olympic Day, organized a nationwide painting competition for kindergarten, primary, secondary and high school students attending schools in Greece and abroad, entitled «ATHLOS AND MUSES» - Art celebrates sport and sport inspires art.

It is a competition of Good Practices that has at its core the universal values through the principles and ideals of Olympism and the sporting spirit.

Throughout the centuries, the competitive spirit has been the main source of inspiration for both Greek and international art, since the beauty of sport has inspired poets, sculptors, writers and musicians.

The most brilliant example of all is the Parthenon Zophoros, conceived by Phidias to depict the procession of the Panathenaic games.

Sport and art inspire each other. Artistic values ennoble sport and enhance its cultural substance, but artistic sensibility is awakened by the beauty of movement. This interaction gives greatness to sport and athletics and enriches the arts.

This year's Olympic Day is dedicated to physical activity through the slogan “Let's Move!”

Young and old alike are sending their own message about being active, encouraging people to dedicate some of their time every day to physical activity and feel the mental and physical benefits of an active lifestyle.
