«It was with great pleasure that we welcomed Olympic champions and the National Olympic Academy at the Themistokleio Stadium in another interactive sports action, in which students of our city participated. The children had the opportunity to learn the secrets of Olympic sports, socialize and live a valuable experience. I would like to thank these important athletes, the Olympic champions, who participated in this beautiful action and the National Olympic Academy for their cooperation. Piraeus now plays a leading role in sporting events and we will continue to seek to organize actions in the city, which bring citizens and especially children and young people closer to sport».
The President of the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Piraeus, Mr. Joseph Vourakis, in a statement, stressed:
«It is a great honour for us that these great athletes, Olympic champions, members of national teams, show our children Olympic sports, with which they come into contact for the first time. Many of the athletes had never visited our city before. As part of the Sea Days, we are launching a partnership with the National Olympic Academy, and more will follow in the next period. I think both the children and the parents who see their children learning new sports are happy. Piraeus is a protagonist, such actions are only good and we will do much more in the future».
The representative of the National Olympic Academy Ms. Denise Panagopoulou, in a statement, pointed out:
«It is our great pleasure as National Olympic Academy that we have started a cooperation with O.P.A.N. which we believe that we will expand and continue in the future. We are here with Olympians in order to expose children to all Olympic sports. Our goal is to pass on the values that sport stands for, because sport makes us better people, teaches us a lot and we want the children to feel the joy that sport gives. They should love it and any child who wishes to pursue one of these sports in the future.
The Director of Primary Education Piraeus Mr.. Alexandros Nanopoulos, in a statement, noted:
«O.P.A.N. and the National Olympic Academy held an original event, where young and old students got to know the Olympic sports and trained with Olympic champions.
The action is particularly important because it coincided with the European Day of School Sport where many sports programmes were held in our schools».
