On the occasion of the World Book Day, on April 23rd, the National Olympic Academy of Greece (ETHNOA), in cooperation with STASY, implemented a symbolic action at Syntagma Metro Station, reinforcing the exchange library with 130 books dedicated to sports, a number that symbolizes the 130 years since the revival of the modern Olympic Games and the timeless value of the Olympic ideal.
Particular emphasis was placed on accessibility, as part of the publications were also available in Braille, underlining the need for equal access to knowledge and culture for all.
The action was attended by the Olympic champions and distinguished athletes, Demosthenes Tabakos, President of ETHNOA and two-time Olympic champion in gymnastics, Nikos Skiathitis, Olympic rowing champion, Nikos Linardos, European basketball champion, Christina Zachariadou, Olympian in tennis, Kallinikos Kreanga, Olympian in table tennis, Anna Charalambidou, Champion in water polo and Iphinoi Davveta, Champion in artistic swimming.
An important contribution was also made by personalities who offered books of their own authorship, such as the Secretary General of Sports George Mavrotas with the book «The Theorem of Seven», Dionysis Gangas, advisor to the President and development programs of the International Olympic Academy, with the book «Olympic Movement and International Politics», as well as Nikos Linardos, who offered the books of the late Peter Linardos «Kostis Tsiklitiras: From Nestor's Gate to the Top of the World» and «Dimitrios Vikelas: From vision to practice».
The library was enriched, among others, by the book «Soul and Body» by the Olympian marathon runner Maria Polyzos and «1894-1994: The History of the Hellenic Olympic Games Committee» by the former Secretary General of the Union of Participants in Olympic Games George Liveris.
The action highlighted the creative meeting of sport and culture in the public space, promoting knowledge and equal access for all.
