The Olympic bronze medalist in rowing Nikos Skiathitis (Athens 2004), the fourth Olympic champion in weightlifting George Tzelilis (Atlanta 1996) and the European Cup winner in water polo Anna Charalambidou (2003) were in Rethymno, in the framework of the cooperation between the Municipality of Rethymno and the National Olympic Academy, on the occasion of the Rethymno Easter Cup, as guests of the Deputy Mayor of Sports Nikos Provias.

During their presence in the city, they visited sports facilities and came into contact with athletes, sportswomen and coaches, discussing with them and transferring experiences from their sporting careers.

They watched matches of the tournament and visited the House of Weightlifting, where George Tzelilis spoke with the young athletes and held his training, in preparation for the Veterans Championship to be held in September. They also toured the gymnasium, which is in its second year of operation and is of European standards. There they met other champions - coaches of gymnastics (Lefteris Kosmidis, Sevasti Yetou), as well as active athletes of our national team. Finally, a visit to the city's swimming pool took place.

In their speeches, they stressed the importance of effort, participation and continuous improvement, as well as the management of victory and defeat, underlining the educational role of sport.
