Our School was drawn, among 94 schools of the Educational Region of Central Macedonia, to participate in the three-day educational visit to Ancient Olympia offered by the National Olympic Academy (N.O.A.A.) and the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC). The visit was implemented in the framework of the educational programme of the 2nd Olympic Week in Schools, under the motto “The Olympic Week on track for the environment and the planet”, organized online by the National Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Directorate of Physical Education of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs.
For the first time, 150 people (children and teachers) from schools all over the country, one from each educational region, were able to experience a unique three-day sports-cultural program in Ancient Olympia.
From 3 to 5 June 2022, ten students and two accompanying teachers of our School were hosted at the modern facilities of the International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia. In the place where the Olympic Games were born they had the opportunity to get to know and cooperate with students from all over Greece by participating in various educational activities (sports, art, entertainment) in the presence of Olympic champions and to experience the Olympic Spirit in all the venues of the Ancient Olympic Games. Also, to be guided in the Archaeological Site and the Museum of Ancient Olympia as well as in the Historical Archive of the Organizing Committee of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, to plant an olive tree sapling in the area of the Coubertin Monument in the presence of the President of the National Olympic Committee.O.O.A., Mr. Alikakos Georgios, to tour and take care of the oak forest of Foloi (protected area of the Natura 2000 Network in Koumani Ilia) on the World Environment Day, expressing a message of individual responsibility and awareness of nature for all. Finally, on the day of the awards ceremony, to offer souvenirs to the organizing committee and the other 12 participating schools.
The schools in the other twelve Education Districts were the: Alexandroupolis Special Primary School, 4th Primary School of Agia Varvara, 2nd Primary School of Mytilene, 25th Primary School of Patras, 6th Primary School of Grevena, 4th Primary School of Arta, Primary School of Karditsomagoula, Nidri High School, 2nd Primary School of Hersonissos, 2nd Primary School of Kos, 3rd Primary School of Sparta and 2nd Primary School of Psahna.
