The regional governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis, was visited today by a delegation of the National Olympic Academy of Greece (ETHNOA) as part of its presence in schools in Crete where educational activities of Olympic education were held with the support of the Region of Crete.
The meeting was attended by the Director of NTHNOA Denise Panagopoulou, the World Open Water Champion, Kelly Arauzou, η Dr. Pella Petraki-Kavvadia, a Lifestyle doctor, the Commissioner for Education and Lifelong Learning, Eleni Maraki-Belladakis who was responsible for the implementation of the programme and the designated advisor for International Relations George Alexakis.
During the meeting, the importance of Olympic Education as a tool for shaping tomorrow's citizens was discussed and the support of the Region to initiatives that promote education, sport and health of children and young people of Crete was confirmed.
In this context, the two-day educational action «The Olympic values as an attitude to life and health», which was organized by the National Olympic Academy of Greece (ETHNOA) in cooperation with the Region of Crete and the Education and Lifelong Learning Sector of the Region of Crete.
The aim of the action was to promote the Olympic values and to raise awareness among students on issues related to the adoption of a healthy lifestyle through sport.
The students of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Primary Schools of Tympaki, the Primary School of Agioi Deca, the 29th and 55th Kindergartens of Heraklion, as well as the 26th and 40th Primary Schools of Heraklion had the opportunity to learn about the principles of the Olympic movement, such as «fair play», mutual respect, self-improvement and teamwork, as well as to understand the importance of these values in everyday life and in the formation of a healthy and balanced personality. Through hands-on activities, students actively participated in the discussion on the importance of physical activity and a balanced diet as key factors in maintaining health.
