Olympic Week in Schools - First Modern Olympic Games: 130 years later | 25 - 29 May 2026

ETHNOA at Kids@Demokritos

The National Olympic Academy of Greece (NTHNOA) participated in the action «Kids@Demokritos - A day at Mom's ~ Dad's work», which took place at the premises of the National Research Centre for Physical Sciences «Demokritos».

Forty children of the Centre's employees, aged 6 to 12 years old, had the opportunity, through the programme of ETHNOA and in cooperation with the Hellenic Paralympic Committee, to learn about the importance of sport and to experience a special and creative day. Through interactive activities, they came into contact with the values of Olympism, tried Olympic and Paralympic sports, such as rowing, athletics, modern pentathlon and boccia, under the guidance of Olympic and Paralympic champions, while at the same time they cultivated the concept of cooperation and acceptance of diversity.

The Olympic champions and distinguished athletes from ETHNOA participated:
Nikos Skiathitis (rowing), Alexandros Yakupovich and Christina Zachariadou (tennis), Christina Kalta (rhythmic gymnastics), Sofia Simantiri (volleyball), Anna Charalambidou (water polo), Dimitra Yovanis (athletics) and Penelope Nika (modern pentathlon).

The participation of children in the «I Love Sports» programme contributed to strengthening the relationship between education and sports, conveying in an experiential way the messages and values of Olympism.
