On November 8, the National Olympic Academy (NOCA) participated in the official celebration of the Air Force, which was held at Dekelias Air Base and was dedicated to its patron, Archangel Michael.
The National Olympic Committee was represented by a group of Olympic champions and distinguished athletes, in the presence of its President, Lieutenant General (D) and two-time Olympic champion Demosthenes Tabakos. The coordination of the action was done by Anna Charalambidou (water polo champion), with the assistance of the Armed Forces Supreme Sports Council (ASAED).
During the action, hundreds of children had the opportunity, passing through the specially designed stations, to learn about and try various sports, such as pole vaulting, long jump, long jump, laser run, archery, golf, obstacle course, weightlifting, rowing and softball, as well as to talk to Olympic champions and distinguished athletes.
Also participating in the action were: Sophia Simantiri (volleyball), Christina Zachariadou (tennis), Christina Kaltsa (rhythmic gymnastics), Alexandros Yakupovich (tennis), Lt, Lieutenant Colonel (D) Nikos Skiathitis (Olympic rowing champion), Panagiotis Themelis (archery), Ioannis Zantiotis Hatzoudas (archery), Dimitris Papazoglou (rowing), Antonis Platis (golf), as well as Fotini Karamadouki and Maria Anastasiou from the Hellenic Archery Federation.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Air Force, Vice Admiral (I) Demosthenes Grigoriadis, met and congratulated the team of the National Air Force, noting the importance of such initiatives and the willingness to continue similar actions beyond the celebration.
Furthermore, he was invited to attend the educational programme “I Love Sports - Kids Sports”, which is implemented by the National Olympic Committee at the Panathinaiko Stadium.
