Olympic Week in Schools - First Modern Olympic Games: 130 years later | 25 - 29 May 2026

Ancient Olympia is ready to welcome the 13 schools that were drawn, one from each educational region of the country

As part of the Olympic Education Programme of the 2nd Olympic Week in Schools, Ancient Olympia is ready to welcome tomorrow at the premises of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, where the IOA is housed, the 13 schools that were drawn, one from each educational region of the country!

Karditsomagoula, the Nidri High School, the 10th Primary School of Nea Triglia, the 2nd Primary School of Limenas Hersonissos, the 2nd Primary School of Kos, the 3rd Primary School of Sparta and the Primary School of Psahna, will hold a three-day program from June 3 to 5 in the historic site of Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games!

With them will be the Olympic champions of weightlifting Victor Mitrou, George Tzelilis, handball George Chalkidis, and the distinguished athletes Penelope Nika (modern pentathlon), Antonis Platis (golf), Anna Charalambidi (water polo), Angelos Lemanis (sailing), Roula Giannikaki (athletics) and Christina Zachariadou (tennis).

The students will have the opportunity to meet the athletes, visit the archaeological site, the Stadium and the Museum of Ancient Olympia, carry out an experiential sports programme (running, jumping, throwing, laser run, handball, weightlifting, golf, cross hoping), visit the Historical Archive of the Organizing Committee of the 2004 Olympic Games and paint their message for Peace.

Finally, on Sunday 5 June 2022, which is World Environment Day, they will carry out an environmental action in the forest of Fologi.
