A meeting was held at the headquarters of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, with the participation of the President of the National Olympic Academy (ETHNOA) Demosthenes Tabakos, the Vice President of the Paralympic Committee Vangelis Kakosaios, the Head of Educational Programmes of the National Research Centre for Natural Sciences «Demokritos» Emilia Smyrli and the Coordinator of the Committee for Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination of the National Research Centre for Natural Sciences «Demokritos» Despina Economidou.
The meeting was also attended by Ioli Panidi, the scientific associate of ETHNOA, the Olympic champion of polo Maria Tsouri and the Head of Educational Programmes of the Paralympic Committee Vassilis Kalyvas.
The aim of the cooperation is the joint development of an educational programme that links sport with science through experiential activities, using modern technologies. The programme is addressed to children and seeks to enhance their interest in knowledge and science, using themes such as physics and artificial intelligence.
This initiative follows the educational action held on 16 June by ETHNOA in cooperation with the Paralympic Committee, during which Olympic and Paralympic sports were presented to the children of Democritus employees.
The President of ETHNOA, Demosthenes Tabakos, underlined: «Childlike curiosity is an innate tendency to explore and learn. To flourish and stay alive, it needs inspiration and motivation. Driven by a love of sport, our goal is to develop a programme that promotes inclusion, contribution and lifelong learning.».
