Development of Life Skills through adapted sports games at KATK Eleonas of Thebes

The National Olympic Academy (NOCA), on Tuesday, April 28th, made its fourth visit in a row to the Rehabilitation Centre for Drug Addicts of Prisoners in Eleonas of Thebes, on the topic “Development of Life Skills through adapted sports games in people under rehabilitation”, in the framework of its cooperation with the Centre for the implementation of sports activities throughout the academic year.

This initiative continues to serve the common goal of strengthening social cohesion and active participation, with sport as a key tool for communication, cooperation and personal development.

Olympic champions and distinguished personalities of Greek sport participated in the implementation of the action: the President of the National Olympic Academy and two-time Olympic champion, Demosthenes Tabakos, the Olympic champion in weightlifting, Giorgos Tzelilis, as well as the European champion in basketball, Nikolaos Linardos.

Present were the representatives of the National Organization for the Prevention and Treatment of Addictions (E.O.P.A.E.), Vasiliki Moro, Psychologist and Head of the Department of Correctional Programs of Correctional Institutions for Adults and Fotis Panagiotounis, Physical Education and member of the Department of Operational Planning and Development Projects of the Strategic Planning and Development Department, who was in charge of the coordination and guidance of the program, with the contribution of the Center's trainer, Yannis Kapoulas.

Also contributing to the implementation of the action were the Physical Education teacher Dimitra Yovanis, as well as students from the Scientific College of Greece (SCG), Evangelia Kapetanaki from the Department of Psychology and Anastasia Kaskantami, Margianna Patsiantzi, Eleni Panagiota Marosi, Melina Skourtti and Delia Papadopoulou from the Department of Sports Sciences.

The action highlighted the special role of sport as a tool for social reintegration and personal empowerment, giving prospects for the continuation and improvement of relevant programmes. The National Olympic Committee expresses its sincere thanks to the Director, Yannis Tsapalis, and his colleagues at the KATK Eleonas of Thebes for their cooperation.
