Olympic champion Polly Saregou at the Friends of the Sea Club with pupils from the 89th Primary School of Thessaloniki

As part of the visit by pupils from the 89th Primary School of Thessaloniki to the premises of the Friends of the Sea Association (O.F.Th.), Olympic basketball champion Polly Saregou visited the club and took part in a special event designed to introduce the children to sport.

During the visit, the pupils had the opportunity to learn the basics of rowing and to experience a sport that combines technique, concentration and teamwork.

At the same time, they discussed the role of sport in everyday life and the positive impact it can have on mental wellbeing and on shaping children’s character. Particular mention was made of the principles of the Olympic Movement and the way in which these continue to inspire young people.

In a statement, Polly Saregou said:

«Interacting with the younger generation is always a special experience. The children’s interest, enthusiasm and smiles serve as a reminder of the importance of creating opportunities that bring young people closer to sport and its values.

I would like to extend my warmest thanks to the Friends of the Sea Club and the coach for their hospitality, as well as to the teachers and pupils for their wonderful presence and participation. I hope that this first introduction to rowing will mark the beginning of a wonderful journey into sport for many of these children.
