Olympic Week in Schools - First Modern Olympic Games: 130 years later | 25 - 29 May 2026

The fourth cycle of the programme «I live the Olympic Values»

The fourth cycle of the programme «Experience the Olympic Values», which started in 2024, was completed with the participation of about 4,000 students and their accompanying teachers from high schools from all over the country.

The last high schools for 2025 were the 2nd Standard of Thessaloniki, the 2nd of Veria, the 4th of Corfu, the Music School of Zakynthos and Meganisi. The children participated in experiential workshops on violence in sports and other situations. Through role-playing and collaboration activities, they created rules of healthy behaviour and presented their work in panels and virtual sports shows.

In discussions with the Olympic rowing champion Nikos Skiathitis and the water polo champion Anna Charalambidou, the children had the opportunity to understand the principles of Olympism and how to apply them in everyday life. In the sports part, they were introduced to various Olympic sports and actively participated.

The visits to the Archaeological Site, the Museum and the Historical Archive of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games complemented the knowledge they had acquired through the thematic presentations at the IOA Conference Centre.

The programme received a positive response: the children participated in all the activities, the teachers worked with the children to apply the Olympic values in everyday life, while the parents expressed their gratitude for the experiences and learning offered by the programme. This response reinforces the intention to develop and expand the programme, with the aim of involving more schools and students from around the country and the world.
