Olympic basketball champion Polly Sarregou participated in the «Sports Games Collaboration in Tomorrow's Europe» programme, representing the National Olympic Academy. The programme took place from 20 to 24 October at the 4th Primary School of Kalamaria, in the framework of a collaboration between four European schools aiming at the exchange of good practices in the field of sport and education for tomorrow's Europe.
The Olympic champion addressed the last day of the programme:
«It is with great pleasure and emotion that I welcome you, on behalf of the National Olympic Academy,
at the closing ceremony of the “Sports Games Collaboration in Tomorrow's Europe” project.
Sport unites us across borders, cultures and languages and teaches us that progress comes through cooperation, respect and continuous effort. The exchange of good practices through this programme is not only an educational process - it is a life lesson that builds character and highlights the values that are at the core of Olympism: excellence, friendship and respect.
These values do not only belong in the stadiums and on the pitches; they belong in the school community, in society and in every place where people work together, dream and strive together for something better.
I am confident that through this programme, the bonds of friendship and cooperation between students and teachers from all over Europe will be strengthened, creating the basis for a better, fairer and more peaceful world.
Thank you very much and I congratulate you for your participation and your efforts.».
