A Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Platform for Sports Integrity and the National Olympic Academy (NOCA), to address the manipulation of sports games, signed at the Deputy Ministry of Sport the Secretary General of Sport and President of the NOCA, George Mavrotas with the President of the NOCA. George Alikakos, in the presence of Vice President Elias Dalaina.
The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding is the development of joint actions for the education and awareness of young children on the principles of the Olympic Ideals and «Fair Play», which are the basic mission of the NOC, in order to contribute to the fight against the phenomenon of manipulation of sports competitions.
Characteristic is the statement of the President of the H.P.Athla. George Mavrotas: «A cornerstone of the efforts of the E.P.A.L.A. to tackle the manipulation of sports games is education and awareness. In this context, the National Olympic Academy has developed important similar actions and therefore I believe that the synergies that will be developed will contribute to the dissemination of values-based sport to the new generations and especially to the younger generations, which is the target group of the National Olympic Academy’.
Mr. Alikakos, for his part, said he was particularly pleased with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and pledged that the National Olympic Committee will contribute from its side in order to combat the manipulation of sporting events. «I am happy with the agreement we signed with the Secretary General of Sport Mr. Mavrotas, because he is leading a committee which is unprecedented for Greece and I believe that it will bring important results. For our part, we will help as much as we can and wherever we can».
Voula Zygouris (member of the NTHN.O.A.), Aghi Kasoumi (member of the Education and Awareness raising team of the NTHL.O.A.), Denise Panagopoulou (director of the NTHN.O.A.) and Vassilis Keramaris (legal expert, coordinator of the Evaluation of Reports team of the NTHL.O.A.) were also present at the signing of the Memorandum.
