The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 24 January as International Education Day to highlight the contribution of education to peace and development. The Hellenic Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Academy participate in the celebration of the Day for Education, not only on this day but throughout the year with visits to schools and sports venues, with educational programmes for youth. A recent visit of ETHNOA. the day before yesterday, to the Lamia «Halchioupouleio» Indoor Gymnasium, where Olympic champions and distinguished champions met with children of primary schools of the city and experienced the joy of sport through their sports. The sports activities were coordinated by: Christina Kaltsa - rhythmic gymnastics, Anna Charalambidi - water polo, Christina Zachariadou - tennis, Sophia Simantiri - volleyball, Alexandros Yakupovich - tennis, Ioanna Bouziou - softball, Andreas Krasopoulos - taekwondo, Maria Christoforidou - weightlifting, Kallinikos Kreanga - table tennis, Nikos Skiathitis - rowing, Angelos Lemanis - sailing, Eleftheria Ftouli - artistic swimming, Stergios Papachristos - rowing, Antonis Platis - golf, Natasha Pontika - boxing.
At the “Olympic Values Station”, the children discussed PEACE, RESPECT and COOPERATION, which are the main pillars of progress for the peoples of the world.
The project was supported by the Municipality of Lamia. The deputy mayors present, Mr. Parcharidis and Mr. Stergios, expressed their satisfaction with the whole event, which was coordinated on behalf of the Network of Primary Schools (1st, 2nd, 5th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th Primary Schools) by Mr. Elias Rigas, headmaster of the 2nd Primary School. The event was honoured with the presence of the Director of Primary Education of Fthiotida, Efthimios Goumas, and the Education Advisor of Pedagogical Responsibility, Athanasios Tsaproounis, who expressed their joy for the success of the action and their thanks to the Director of ETHNOA, Mrs. Denise Panagopoulou.
Visits to schools throughout the country continue with the implementation of numerous educational programmes.
