The first National Olympic Academy was founded in 1968 in Spain. The example that Spain set was followed by many other countries especially in the 1980s and 1990s, where forty-three and sixty National Olympic Academies respectively were established around the world. Today, there are 149 National Olympic Academies in total all over the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The Hellenic Olympic Academy (HOA) was founded on October 9, 2001 with its headquarters in Athens. It is housed in the building of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and is supervised by the Minister of Culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOA is one of the 27 founding members of the European Olympic Academies, whose establishment took place on September 20, 2018 at the General Assembly of Ljubljana.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Hellenic Olympic Academy collaborates with the Hellenic Olympic Committee to promote the philosophy of Olympism and Olympic Ideals, aiming the development of Olympic Education programs.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The Hellenic Olympic Academy has as a main goal the spreading of Olympic Education in the Greek region, the cultivation and implementation of the pedagogical and social principles of the Olympic movement, the communication of the principles of sportsmanship to the youth, the tradition of sports and Fair Play , the contribution to the fight against the phenomena of doping and violence in the field of sports, the promotion of the idea of \u200b\u200bsport as a fundamental social right and the contribution to the development of Olympic volunteering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOA implements educational programs of Olympic Education, mostly aimed to the children and young people of Greece.<\/p>\n<\/div>
